Theaters existed in countries with a more lenient stance on theater, such as England and Spain. Theater productions in Amsterdam included new and adapted plays, catering to the public's need for entertainment.

In the 1640s, Spanish plays became popular in Dutch theater, with themes of love, jealousy, and conflict. Playwrights like Vondel introduced serious performances of Spanish plays to the Dutch audience, gaining appreciation despite occasional criticism for lack of artistic value. The adaptation of Spanish plays contributed to the development of Dutch theater.

In the 17th century, Italian opera, influenced by composers like Monteverdi, began to gain popularity. The Dutch Republic welcomed various forms of music and entertainment, including opera. The French and English opera styles also influenced the Dutch music scene, leading to a diverse musical landscape in the region.

The emergence of British composers, like Purcell, marked a significant development in the music history of England. Purcell's work and influence extended beyond England, making him a prominent figure in the international music scene. His compositions, inspired by classical stories and librettos, contributed to the rich musical culture of his time.
